The structure and significance of the tear film and symptoms of Meibomian glands dysfunction (MGD), its pathomechanism including dry eye and possible prevention methods were described. The data were compared with the results obtained from the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire, which is a tool for assessing the severity of eye surface disorders. The data analysis was performed. A relationship between the degree of atrophy of the glands and the occurrence of symptoms of eye surface disorders was observed.
