The field of vision is an image of space which is falling on the retina by causing a visual impression while the eye is stationary.
The field of vision is limited due to construction of the eye and its position in the eye socket. Area of the field of vision is described in chapter 2.
In addition to the limitations of anatomy, the reason are also diseases like glaucoma, retinopathy and macular degeneration.
History shows us that in the mid-nineteenth century people already knew there is a need to test our field of vision. The new apparatus and methods were developed and improved. Introductory examination of the field of view can be performed in the optometry office. Confrontational method can help us but precise determination of defects, their location, shape can be located by using the Goldman’s Perimeter, Humphrey’s Field Analizer or other devices. Field tests should be done with a doctor, who has great experiences and practice.
