Harmful influence of electromagnetic waves on the human retina
dr Anna Ambroziak
Eyes belong to organs most exposed to electromagnetic radiation. Retinal damage may be photomechanical, photochemical or photothermal, depending on the radiation properties. Most frequently eyes are exposed to ultraviolet radiation and blue light. These wave ranges have a significant share in the ambient light from the sun, artificial light sources and electronic devices. Ionizing radiation is a risk during radiotherapy. Laser radiation requires special precautions. Treatment of injuries caused by electromagnetic radiation is complicated and many times does not bring satisfactory results, therefore prevention is very important.
