Basic responsibilities and
obligations
  • Nondimensionalization of the equation system for Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL) with the Coriolis term.
  • Identification of the key nondimensional parameters describing stably-stratified ABL.
  • Multi-scale asymptotic expansion for the limiting cases, derivation of the simple analytical solutions.
  • Development of a Lie symmetry analysis of a system given by asymptotic series.
  • Cooperation with with a PhD student involved in the project.
  • Preparation of scientific publications, reports, conference presentations, etc.

Conditions for entering the competition
  • Fulfilment of the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text)
  • The candidate at the time of employment must be a holder of a PhD in physics, mathematics, Earth and environmental sciences or a related field,
  • should posses strong backgrounds in applied mathematics and research experience in problems of atmospheric science and/or geophysical fluid dynamics,
  • have good programming skills, 
  • posses good command of spoken and written English,
  • have significant academic or professional achievements,
  • should prepare a plan for further research activities,
  • have international experience,
  • should not be currently employed at the University of Warsaw

The candidate must meet the conditions set by the National Science Center for people employed in a post-doc position. In particular, the person employed for this position must have a doctoral degree obtained no earlier than 12 years before the 1st of January of the year of employment in the project. This period does not include breaks related to maternity leave, additional maternity leave, leave on the conditions of maternity leave, additional leave on the conditions of maternity leave, paternity leave, or parental leave granted on the terms specified in the provisions of the Labor Code or the receipt of sickness allowance or rehabilitation benefits in connection with incapacity for work, including those caused by diseases requiring medical rehabilitation. For women, the indicated 12-year period may be extended by 18 months for each child born or adopted. A woman can choose a more favorable way to indicate breaks in her scientific career.

The employment will take place in accordance with the NCN regulations, in particular the employed person must meet the following conditions jointly:

  • at the time of receiving remuneration, they will not be receiving any other remuneration paid from the funds granted to research projects under NCN calls under the heading of direct costs;
  • their PhD degree has not been awarded by an institution planned to employ them at this post or the person conducted at least an uninterrupted 10-month postdoc position in another institution and in another country than the one hosting the project;
  • the PI was not a supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of the candidate;
  • in the period of receiving the remuneration they will be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with registered office outside of Poland;
  • in the period of receiving this remuneration, they will not receive pension benefits from the social security system;
  • will be employed for at least 6 months.

If hired, we expect the University of Warsaw to be the primary workplace for the successful candidate.

Criteria for the assessment of candidates in a
competition

Each member of the selection committee evaluates each candidate by awarding points in three categories:

  • scientific achievements, including publications in reputable scientific publications/journals (max. 40 points)
  • achievements resulting from the conduct of scientific research, scholarships, awards and scientific experience gained at home or abroad, scientific workshops and training, participation in research projects (max. 20 points)
  •  competence to carry out specific tasks in the research project (max. 40 pts.)

Total to obtain: 100 points from each committee member. The candidate who meets the entry requirements and obtains the highest number of points, not less than 60% of the total possible points, will win.
