Research Station at the Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences in Sopot

The main goal of the research carried out at the Research Station in Sopot (RSS) is to study physical properties, including optical properties of atmospheric aerosols and the determination of radiative and energy balances at the ground level via the analyses of radiation transfer in the atmosphere. The studies are made using both the remote sensing and in situ techniques. The RSS is a partner in the ACTRIS (Aerosols, Clouds, and Trace gases Research Infrastructure Network) project (www.actris.net).

Measurements
  • aerosol optical depth using Microtops sunphotometers and a Multi-Filter Rotating Shadowband Radiometer MFR-7
  • profiles of aerosol extinction with use of a Raymetrics Backscatter Lidar model LB10 D-200
  • solar radiation with use of Kipp&Zonen pyranometers
  • total scattering coefficient and backscattering coefficient using a TSI nephelometer
  • aerosol concentration and size distributions from laser particle counters, CSASP-100, TSI counter and TSI Condensation Particle Counter
  • soot concentration and aerosol absorption from a AE-31/MAGEE aethalometer
