QUANTUM OPTICS V

"FROM QUANTUM OPTICS TO PHOTONICS"

TRAVEL

  • Traveling via Warsaw (Warszawa)
The airport is situated not far from the center of Warsaw. The easiest way to reach the city center and the central railway station (Dworzec Centralny) is to take a taxi or bus #175. With the same bus it is also possible to go further to the Old Town, however be aware that line #175 is the favourite line of pick-pockets as well as the ticket control service. With little extra charge, it is possible to buy the tickes from the bus driver. You will probably need another ticket for the luggage. The tickets must be validated in the bus.
The best way to go from Warsaw to Zakopane is to go first to Cracow by train (PKP)
or Polski Express bus and afterwards to take another bus or train. There are also a few direct trains from Warsaw to Zakopane.
  • Traveling via Cracow (Kraków)
To get from the airport to the railway or bus station one can take a taxi (about 50 zloty) or a city bus #192 or 208. (click on "Komunikacja Miejska" and then on "Autobusy Podmiejskie"; important vocabulary: Port Lotniczy = Airport, Dworzec Glowny = Main train station, Kierunek przeciwny=Opposite direction). Bus fare is 2.20 zloty (#198) or 2.60 zloty (#208). One needs a ticket (available in newspaper kiosks or by the
driver for extra 0.50 zloty). Don't forget to validate your tickets right after entering the bus. Extra tickets are needed for oversized  (over about a cabin-size case) luggage.
For convenience of those who will change in Krakow there is an orientation map of the station area in Krakow. All stops are within a walking distance of some 200-400 m. Please note that there are three carriers that run bus/coach service to Zakopane. One is the national PKS, two others are small firms FREJ and SZWAGROPOL (their coaches depart from place marked "C" on the map) (click on "Rozklad jazdy" - timetable and/or "Ceny biletow" - tickets price list).  Their standard and prices (about 10 Polish zloty, i.e. 2.5 USD) are comparable. There is no need to book the bus, the service is quite frequent. The bus ride between Krakow and Zakopane takes about 2 hours.
